After weeks of movement, encouragement and determination, we’ve officially reached the end of our MindGym programme and what an incredible journey it has been.
At Coventry, Warwickshire & Worcestershire Mind, we know that looking after our mental health isn’t just about talking. It’s also about moving, connecting with others, building confidence and creating healthy routines that last long beyond a programme’s end.
MindGym was created with exactly that vision in mind.
Through a series of inclusive fitness sessions, our service users had the opportunity to improve both their physical and mental wellbeing in a welcoming, supportive environment. But this project became so much more than exercise. It became about overcoming barriers, building friendships, discovering new confidence and proving to ourselves that recovery can take many different forms.
The connection between physical health and mental health is undeniable.
Regular physical activity can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve sleep, increase energy levels and build resilience. Yet for many people experiencing poor mental health, stepping into a gym can feel overwhelming.
MindGym helped remove those barriers.
With support from our staff, Activity Coordinators and fitness professionals, participants found the confidence to try something new in an environment where everyone was welcomed exactly as they were.
One step at a time, those feelings of uncertainty began to transform into confidence, pride and achievement.
Creating Lasting Change
One of the greatest successes of the programme has been supporting people to see gyms as spaces they belong in.
Rather than viewing exercise as something intimidating or inaccessible, many of our participants now feel confident walking through the doors, using equipment and continuing their wellbeing journey independently.
This is exactly the kind of long-term impact we hoped to create not simply attending a programme, but empowering people with the confidence and skills to continue prioritising their physical and mental wellbeing long into the future.
A Partnership That Made a Difference
This project would not have been possible without the incredible partnership and support of CV Life.
From welcoming our participants into The Wave gym facilities to creating an inclusive and encouraging environment, their commitment has been instrumental in making MindGym such a success.
Their staff consistently went above and beyond to ensure every participant felt comfortable, supported and valued. Together, we’ve shown what can be achieved when organisations work collaboratively to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.
Thank you to everyone at CV Life for believing in this project and helping us create such a positive experience for our service users.
Thank You to National Mind and the ASICS Foundation
We’re also incredibly grateful to National Mind and the ASICS Foundation, whose funding made MindGym possible.
Their investment has enabled us to develop an innovative programme that brings together physical activity and mental health support in a meaningful way. Thanks to their generosity, we’ve been able to help people develop healthier lifestyles, improve their wellbeing and build confidence that extends far beyond the gym.
This project is a fantastic example of how funding can create genuine, lasting change in people’s lives.
Thank You to Our Activity Coordinators
A heartfelt thank you goes to our fantastic Activity Coordinators from Harry Salt House and St Clare’s Gardens.
Their encouragement, patience and unwavering support played a huge part in the success of every session. They didn’t simply accompany participants they motivated them, celebrated every achievement and helped create a safe environment where people felt able to challenge themselves.
The relationships they have built with our service users have been invaluable throughout this journey.
Watching Confidence Grow
Perhaps the most rewarding part of MindGym has been watching confidence flourish.
People who arrived feeling anxious about entering a gym were soon encouraging one another, celebrating personal achievements and looking forward to each week’s session.
Every extra minute on the treadmill, every new piece of equipment tried, every conversation started and every smile shared represented another step forward.
These moments may seem small individually, but together they tell an incredible story of resilience, courage and recovery.
Looking Ahead
Although this cohort has now come to an end, the impact will continue long after the final session.
MindGym has demonstrated the powerful role that movement, community and partnership can play in supporting mental wellbeing. We hope this is just the beginning of many more opportunities to help people build confidence through physical activity.
To everyone who took part, thank you for trusting us and for inspiring us every single week. Your determination has reminded us that recovery looks different for everyone but with the right support, incredible things are possible.
Watch this space for more updates on the project as we continue to explore new opportunities to help people improve their wellbeing through movement, confidence and community.
If you’d like to find out more about MindGym, explore future partnership opportunities, or discuss how you could support projects like this, we’d love to hear from you.
