Steven has dedicated more than 30 years to improving the mental health and wellbeing of individuals and communities across Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. As Chief Executive Officer of Coventry, Warwickshire & Worcestershire Mind, he leads one of the largest local Mind organisations in England, delivering a wide range of community, crisis, housing and talking therapy services that support thousands of people each year.

Having joined the organisation in 1994, Steven has spent his career championing accessible, person-centred mental health support and tackling the inequalities that prevent people from receiving the help they need. He is a passionate advocate for collaboration across the voluntary, community and statutory sectors, believing that lasting change is achieved through partnership and co-production with people who have lived experience.

Alongside his executive leadership role, Steven is an active contributor to local and national mental health initiatives and wider Mind Federation governance. His work focuses on developing sustainable services, strengthening communities, and ensuring that mental health remains a priority for commissioners, policymakers and health systems. He remains committed to a simple but powerful principle: that everyone should have access to compassionate, high-quality mental health support when they need it most.

Alethea (Leeya) Balbuena

Alethea (Leeya) has worked at Coventry and Warwickshire Mind since 1999 and has held various positions during her 23 years working for the organisation. She started her career as a Support Worker within adult mental health services and later went on to work as a housing officer before moving to the Children and Young People’s Service as Service Manager. Building on the great work that had already been started, she helped to shape the service from around 200 young people attending each year to over 2,000 being part of the service today.

In 2013, Leeya successfully secured a position as Senior Operational Manager, overseeing services delivered across Coventry and Warwickshire; Day Services, Recovery Academy, Wellbeing Hubs, Syrian Resettlement, and Children and Young People’s.

Most recently, in 2017, Leeya secured the position of Director of Operations and hopes to bring the wealth of knowledge and experience she gained working in the grass roots to the Senior Management Team.

Outside of work, Leeya loves family time, has a passion for all of the things that motivate growth; days out with family, long distance running, time with friends, spiritual development and generally squeezes the most from each day given.
