In a heartwarming display of creativity, compassion and quiet determination, 14-year-old Alex from Coventry has raised £347.55 for Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind — all through the power of 3D-printed fidget spinners.

Alex decided to use his time and talents to make a real difference. As part of his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award at Grace Academy Coventry, Alex set out to combine his passion for 3D printing with a cause close to his heart: mental health awareness.

“I want to change the way people—especially boys and men—think and talk about mental health,” Alex explained. “Sometimes life gets overwhelming, and too often, boys don’t talk about it because they’re afraid of being judged.”

Using his own 3D printer, Alex designed and produced a range of colourful fidget toys, small, tactile items that can help with focus, stress relief, and anxiety. But for Alex, these weren’t just fun gadgets, they were conversation starters.

“When people buy one of my fidget toys, I want them to know it’s okay to talk about their feelings and that support is out there.”

Through word of mouth, support at events and a touch of entrepreneurial flair, Alex sold his creations to friends, family, and local supporters — raising nearly £350 for Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire  Mind. Every penny of profit has gone directly to the charity to support vital mental health services in the community.

“Mental health matters for everyone, no matter their age or gender. If my small project can encourage even one person to speak up, reach out, or support a friend, then it’s worth it.”

At Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind, we couldn’t be prouder to see young people like Alex stepping up, speaking out, and showing that you’re never too young to make a difference.

Thank you, Alex, for your creativity, your courage, and your commitment to better mental health for all.
