In May 2025, David Zone achieved something truly remarkable he climbed Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) via the Llanberis Path. But this wasn’t just a physical challenge; it was a powerful symbol of recovery and resilience.

Back in December 2019, David suffered a double stroke and spent three months in a coma. He contracted COVID twice, was ventilated twice and was left bedbound, with doctors unsure if he’d ever walk again. But through sheer determination and support from incredible care teams, David slowly rebuilt his life.

A cranioplasty gave him back movement and months of intensive rehab followed at the Central England Rehabilitation Unit and later at Helen Ley (Castel Froma) in Leamington Spa. There, he re-learned how to move, dress, and eventually walk again simple things that became major victories.

By 2023, David moved into supported living and in 2024 began volunteering at a local Mind charity shop—finding new purpose, connection and confidence.

His climb raised a fantastic £936.26, which will be split equally between the two charities that played a key role in his journey:

  • Helen Ley (Castel Froma) – for supporting his physical recovery
  • Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind – for helping rebuild his confidence and mental wellbeing through volunteering

David shared his heartfelt thanks to teams, family, friends, and everyone who supported him.
“Let’s make this climb count—thank you for your support.”

Congratulations, David – your strength and spirit inspire us all.
