On Sunday 24th August 2025, the sun shone brightly over Nuneaton Cricket Club as the local community came together for a day filled with energy, purpose and heart. This year’s charity fun day was held in memory of cherished members of the cricket community, raising an incredible £2,350.82 in support of Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind.
After the success of last year’s event for an anti-violence and knife crime charity, organisers were inspired to aim even higher in 2025 and they more than delivered.
This year’s chosen cause, mental health, felt deeply personal to many at the club.
“Over the years, our cricket community has dealt with loss, grief, and mental health struggles. As a club, we wanted to support a charity that helps people through those difficult times — and show others that they’re not alone.”
The day wasn’t just about fundraising, it was a celebration of ladies cricket, community spirit and the power of sport to bring people together for a shared cause. And with a full day of softball matches, a Pilates and aerobics warm-up and a raffle bursting with brilliant prizes, there was something for everyone.
Playing for a purpose
Five enthusiastic teams took to the pitch, competing for the honour of winning the John Yates Memorial Cup — named in loving memory of a beloved club supporter and father to one of the event organisers.
“My dad, John, was a huge supporter of this club, and I know he’d be proud to see such an incredible event held in his name.”
As the heat rose, so did the competition. After some hard-fought matches under the blazing sun, three teams ended up tied — leading to a dramatic bowl-off between Attleborough No Balls, Fillongley and Nuneaton Ladies.
In a thrilling finish, it was Nuneaton Ladies who bowled their way to victory in a gripping final. 🏆👏
A day to remember
The day wouldn’t have been possible without the generous raffle prize donors, dedicated volunteers, match officials, stallholders and supportive spectators who made the event a resounding success.
“The energy and dedication on the day truly brought the community together — and helped raise vital funds for mental health services, crisis care, and bereavement support.”
With the total raised smashing the original target, the team is already looking ahead:
“This will now be a yearly event, and we’re excited to raise money for even more fantastic causes that support our local community.”
