We support local authorities in patient recovery

Resident initially presented with trauma, isolation and physical health issues. Intervention included support with cooking, encouraging time in the community through weekly coffee visits and emotional regulation around particular dates.

“I engage in weekly cooking sessions and have improved my skills in this area. Since being at St Clair Gardens, there has been a significant reduction in self-harm. The extra support I’ve received around specific dates has had a positive impact on my mental health. I’m now able to get around locally on my own and have built up social skills within the unit.”

“My time at St Clair Gardens helped me become fully independent with things like my medication and finances. I enjoyed exercise like pilates and spending time with the other residents. Eventually, I was confident enough to go out on community visits with them. The team also gave me a folder when I left full of support information if I needed it.”

Resident initially presented with anxiety, depression, and illicit drug use and had an autistic diagnosis. Intervention included motivational interviewing around safety, a drug harm reduction programme with our occupational therapist, and groups exploring mental health needs and ADL skills.

“I’ve never managed to stay in a placement for longer than three months before, and I’ve struggled to feel safe and trust anyone in previous placements. Now, I feel like I can have open and honest conversations with staff and trust them. I’ve also gained a better understanding of how autism affects me on a day-to-day basis.”

“It was great to include activities I enjoyed while living independently in my goals. The team helped me visit family and go to the football. After some ill health, they also helped me with adaptive equipment so I was able to be as independent as possible. They also helped me with anxiety and sleep management.”

“I trust the staff and can seek support when I’m emotionally dysregulated, making positive choices for coping. My ADL skills have improved — I cook weekly, prepare healthy lunches, and go out independently while feeling safe in the community. I keep my room tidy with occasional prompts and manage self-care as needed. I follow an exercise programme three times a week, have various hobbies, and self-harm incidents have significantly decreased.”
